Our Governors

Our role is to work in partnership with the Headteacher to provide the best education for the children in line with the school’s vision and Christian values. We meet as a full Governing Body five times during the academic year. At these meetings we receive a report from the Headteacher, discuss the work of our sub-committees and consider other information that is important to the school. Each year we also hold a governors ‘Deep Dive’ day. Focussing on a particular priority from our Improvement and Development Plan, we spend the day in school talking and listening to children so we can understand their perception of their learning and progress.

 

 

We are responsible for monitoring and evaluating the performance and effectiveness of the school and most of this work is carried out through one of the following sub-committees:
  • Teaching and Learning Committee – Governors consider the schools performance in line with the National Curriculum. It monitors targets set in the Improvement and Development plan and analyses its impact on the progress and attainment of pupil groups.
  • Teaching and Learning Committee Terms of Reference
  • Resources Committee – Governors look at the financial performance of the school, monitor its income and expenditure against improvement and development priorities and makes sure its money is well spent. This committee is also responsible for making sure the schools premises are kept in good order and that the requirements of Health and Safety law are met.

  • Personnel Committee – Governors oversee the appointment and performance management of all staff. Alongside the Headteacher they also support the professional development and wellbeing of the Pulham staff team.

I live in Pulham Market and have three children, two currently attend Pulham School and one attends Archbishop Sancroft High School. I am an accountant and work locally part time. I regularly attend St Marys Magdalen Church and local family services.

Ann Barth

I have lived in Pulham Market for 5 years and have served as a Governor on two previous occasions, both at Pulham Primary and Harleston Infant School before it combined with the junior school.  I have always had a keen interest in children’s education which plays an important part in shaping them for the future.  I have 6 children and 16 grandchildren and am an active member of the local church. I also lead a church team who regularly visit the school to conduct Open the Book assemblies.

Simone Goddard

I have been Head Teacher at Pulham Primary for 5 years and before that was the Deputy Head Teacher. I have been in education for 16 years. Before qualifying as a teacher I worked at Norwich Theatre Royal as the Education Manager, running and organising education projects including the Norfolk Schools Project, introducing children to dance and opera. I have been married for 30 years and have two sons. I became a teacher and then a Head Teacher as I believe passionately in the right of every child to have an exciting, inspiring and quality educational experience with no ceiling placed upon their learning and with the chance to surprise themselves and their teachers every day.

I have worked at Pulham School since 2008. As School Business Manager I manage the premises and finances as well as administrative functions ensuring the smooth day to day operation of the school.  I have worked in schools since 2003 and have previously served 4 years as a parent governor at my children’s school.

Alan Thorp

I am a retired Business Consultant having worked on assignments in both the UK and abroad. Latterly I worked with the Governor Services Team in Norfolk, training school governors.  I have an enduring interest in the potential of young people having volunteered as a school governor at Archbishop Sancroft Academy for twelve years, retiring as Chair of Governors.  I have been involved in Scouting from a young age and currently serve as Church Warden of Pulham Market Church. Family life and Christian values are very important to me.
