Children in the EYFS learn best and most effectively when they are given the opportunity to explore,
investigate and learn about things that interest them. This term our focus will be on “Growth and
New life” but this theme will evolve as the children show us their particular interests.

Core texts
The Magic Porridge Pot
Jack and the Beanstalk
Rosie’s walk
The very Hungry Caterpillar

The children will learn the story of The Magic Porridge Pot and use it as a stimulus to make up their
own stories.

We will continue to read in our Read Write Inc groups and develop our knowledge of set 1/2/3
sounds. The children will be continuing to apply their sounds independently to their writing.
We will continue to develop our outdoor area by planting seeds and plants. We will also be
developing areas to encourage wildlife and mini beasts as well as watching our tadpoles developing.
As well as access to our outdoor area on a daily basis the children will also develop co-ordination
through our BEAM sessions and develop skills using small equipment such as balls and bean bags.
During this term the children will continue to practise counting objects and recognising numbers
accurately through adult directed and free-flow sessions. We will develop the vocabulary involved in
adding, subtracting, doubling and sharing.

When sharing the book Rosie’s walk we will develop the children’s use of positional language.
On a weekly basis the children will also participate in forest school sessions and visit our woody area
and Dade meadow.

We look forward to an exciting term and look forward to seeing where the children’s interests take
