Mrs Gascoyne would like to welcome you all to Penguins class.

1st October 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would just like to welcome you and your children to Penguin class and Pulham school. The children have  settled well and are already remembering lots of our routines.

Over the half term we will be following the White Rose Maths scheme. This term the focus is All about me! We will be matching, sorting and comparing amounts as well as comparing size, mass, capacity and exploring pattern.

We have begun our RWI sessions where we will play lots of listening games as well as learning the first set of letter sounds. You should have received a video to explain how we teach reading in Penguin class. Please practice the letter sounds with your child daily and send your phonic book in daily so we can practice at school. Please write in your home/ school book at least 3 times per week about books you have shared/ letters you have practiced. We love to hear what you have been doing at home.

Twice a week we will have our PATHS  session which reinforces our class rules and develops the children’s understanding of feelings.

We will also be beginning a story telling session in school following the principles of Tales toolkit. This is a new initiative in school and we are very excited to be developing this area of the curriculum.

This half term we will find out about Autumn, Ourselves, Our school and where we live . These topics will be explored through books, large group sessions as well as small group sessions.

As well as these more directed sessions the children will have the opportunity to develop their own skills /interests through our daily activity time.

We will be in touch within the next couple of weeks with extra information concerning our Forest school and P.E. sessions.

I look forward to working with you over your child’s time in Penguins. Please look out for my email every Friday outlining what we have done during the week.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Kirstie Gascoyne
